The Sagratino Wine Road
________________________
A drive on Umbria’s Sagrantino Wine Road is a wonderful addition to your stay. Umbria is an ideal place for travelers to combine their love of exploring the Italian countryside with their passion for local food and wine. Known as the green heart of Italy, the Umbrian countryside offers visitors fantastic views and relaxing drives. An easy day trip from Villa I Grifoni, the Sagrantino Wine Road is a picturesque mix of medieval towns and local wineries that visitors can explore at their own pace.
Sagrantino, a complex varietal that Umbrian wineries are preserving through traditional production, is one of the top wines produced in Umbria and is found only in this specific region. Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Grechetto are other Central Italian varietals you’ll find in the area.

Wine Tasting Closer to Home
________________________
There are several excellent wineries just a short ride away from the villa. One of our favorites is the Cantina Peppucci, a small, traditional wine estate with some excellent wines and great hospitality. Cantina Peppucci is an 8 minute drive from the villa.
If you’d prefer to stay in, we can also organize wine tastings at the villa. Just let us know a day in advance, and we’ll set up an evening with one of our associated sommeliers.

Farm Tour: “KM Zero” & Traditional Umbrian lunch

Meet up with the farmers to discover the differences between conventional farming vs. family farming and artisan food production. Following rich traditional “KM ZERO“ (food grown only at the farm and at partnered farms located only in the same area) lunch Umbrian-style.
Kids – friendly.

Getting around the Villa
________________________
The nearest supermarket, bakery and coffeeshop are in the village of Grutti, just 750 meters from the villa. Ask Mauro, the barista, to pour you a latte macchiato, while you wait for your freshly baked bread.
For the larger grocery run, there is an EMI Hypermarket at a 10 minutes drive from the villa. The pharmacy, petrol station, and ATM machine are just opposite the EMI.
If you don’t feel like cooking you can always ask Luciano to arrange for grocery delivery and in-home cooking service. Or, you can simply order from Le Noci, our local restaurant. Le Noci offers traditional Italian food (especially the pastas are to die for) and delivers at the villa for free. Great for a laid-back movie evening in our cinema room, or in front of the fire.
